CLARKE MAKES UP GROUND IN POINTS CHASE
Mondello Park, 18th September 2005: The good news for Dan Clarke from Mondello Park is that he's now just one point adrift of Marko Asmer in the fight for fourth place in the British Formula 3 International Series, going into the final round at Silverstone. The bad news is that he struggled for pace all weekend in his Raikkonen Robertson Racing Dallara-Mugen Honda.
And the average news is that he kept it on the island to finish sixth in both races at the amazingly slow Irish circuit. "It was a really bad weekend in terms of performance," said Clarke. I had trouble with the car, and because of that, had difficulty getting to grips with the track."
Clarke qualified seventh for race one, but faded to 12th on the grid for the second race. Mondello is very tricky and bumpy and we just didn't seem to have the grip levels," he said. We were even going into races trying very radical changes because we were still improving. By the second race we'd found something, but you need that for qualifying really because this track is like Monaco.
"After qualifying we knew we wouldn't have a good weekend but we also knew we could get some positives out of it, and that's what we did. We got some good points and it was good for us that Asmer really struggled."
Dan now heads into the final round at Silverstone on October 9 as the favourite to grab fourth in the championship, as he has big momentum over his Estonian rival in the battle for points.
