Disappointing Silverstone weekend for Jack Harvey

British racing driver Jack Harvey endured a disappointing race weekend at Silverstone after post-race penalties saw the Carlin driver lose out on two podium finishes and hinder his chance of a podium finish in race two.

Saturday morning’s qualifying session was another tightly contested affair and the Racing Steps Foundation driver posted two lap times that saw him qualify in third place for races one and three.

However, following the race, the stewards deemed Harvey to have jumped the start and he was given a 30 second penaltywhich relegated him to eighth position.

For race two Harvey lined up in P2 for the reverse grid. On the opening lap Derani and Harvey made contact, which allowed Seralles to take the lead and dropped Harvey down to P3. With the top three covered by just nine tenths, the battle for the lead was close throughout the race.

On the penultimate lap Serralles went wide onto the grass and Lynn spun in an attempt to avoid his teammate. Harvey was able to react quickly to avoid Lynn and took second place.

However, following the race, the Carlin driver was heavily penalised for the opening lap incident with Derani, and was relegated to tenth place after receiving a 30second penalty. Harvey was also given a five place grid penalty for race three.

For the final race of the weekend Harvey lined up in eighth place on the grid. Having used his set of new tyres in race two, Harvey knew he faced an uphill struggle in the race on old tyres. Harvey initially dropped down to P9 at the start but was back up to P8 by lap two.

On lap five Harvey moved up to seventh place but struggling for grip he was being caught by eighth placed Serralles. On the penultimate lap Serralles was able to snatch seventh place and Harvey crossed the finish line in P8.

“It has been a really disappointing weekend at Silverstone. We had qualified well on Saturday and with the pace we were showing we were confident of making up some places during the races and extending our lead in the Championship;” commented Jack Harvey.

“Instead we come away third in the Championship, with a 23 point deficit to make up in the final round at Donnington. There are three races left so our focus will be a double pole position and at least two wins and another podium finish.

At Donington we will be continuing to push hard for the Championship as we have done all season;” continued Jack Harvey.

Jack Harvey heads to Donington on the 29th September for the next round of the British F3 Championship. Harvey is currently third in the drivers Championship with 259 points.
