Dan Clarke, 2004 Formula Ford Festival winner steps up to Formula 3
Silverstone, 16 March 2005: It was confirmed today that Dan Clarke will contest the highly-competitive 2005 British Formula 3 Championship with Raikkonen Robertson Racing. Backed by F1 star Kimi Raikkonen and his management team, "RR Racing" is a new team with big ambitions.
The 21-year-old Yorkshireman is following in the footsteps of fellow Formula Ford Festival winners: Johnny Herbert, Eddie Irvine, Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson, who all progressed into F3 on their way to F1.
Dan's team-mate in 2005 is Bruno Senna, nephew of the late great Ayrton, a childhood hero of Dan's. Managed by the recognised music promoter Chas Cole, Dan has been mentored throughout his career by many great people from the world of motorsport and beyond. His down-to-earth sense of humour and attitude to life has stood him in good stead for the trials and tribulations of national motorsport.
"I'm a lucky boy", said Dan. "I'm very happy to be contesting the F3 Championship against such a strong field of competitors, not least my own team-mate! Raikkonen Robertson Racing is a great team, created by one of the fastest drivers in F1 today and led by some fantastic engineering talent, so we have everything we need to do a good job. I learnt a lot in Formula Ford and I'll carry on learning here in F3. I've worked hard to get here and the only laurels I want to be resting on are the ones they give you on the podium!"
"When we looked at all the future prospects Dan stood out of the pack as one to work with", commented Kimi Raikkonen. "He is fast, he is determined, and as the Formula Ford Festival win showed, he has the mind of a champion."
Dan's 2005 F3 campaign begins at Donington Park on 2/3 April.
