Atte Mustonen fourth at Croft in British F3
Räikkönen Robertson Racing's (Double R) F3 driver Atte Mustonen finished fourth in both races of the British F3 meeting at the Croft track on Sunday.
After qualifying on Saturday the starting positions for Sunday's first race were as follows: Marcus Ericsson/Fortec Motorsport on pole, Sergio Perez/T-Sport second and Sebastian Hohenthal/Fortec Motorsport third. Atte described his own qualifying session as "a catastrophe", as the car still wouldn't run properly in the cold, dry conditions. This meant that Atte had to start the first race from lowly eleventh on the grid.
The start order for the second race looked a lot better from Atte's point of view, after he claimed a start from sixth on the grid. Carlin Motorsport's Brendon Hartley started from pole, Fortec Motorsport's Marcus Ericsson from second and T-Sport's Sergio Perez from third.
Sunday's morning race got under way in the rain. Atte was playing catch-up from eleventh on the grid, but had his sights firmly set on the lead. The wet track caused some problems and a few surprises for the drivers, but Atte fought valiantly up from eleventh to finish a fine fourth. The race was won by Sergio Perez/T-Sport, from second on the grid.
The afternoon's race was held on a dry track. Evenso ,the red flags came out and the race was stopped due to a major crash. The debris was soon cleared away and the restarted race was eventually won by Brendon Hartley/Carlin Motorsport, with Atte again finishing fourth.
"The car is a big problem for us, we can't seem to get it to go any quicker, no matter what we do. Our tactics have been to just drive for as many points as we can in these conditions," said Atte after Sunday's Croft meeting.
The next race will be on 18.5. at Monza. Atte Mustonen is now second in the championship with 36 points, four points behind series leader Sergio Perez.
