Gonzalez has mixed British F3 weekend in Bucharest
Venezuelan Rodolfo Gonzalez was competing last weekend in the inaugural race weekend on a street circuit in central Bucharest. The track went around the city centre and the Presidential palace.
As this was a new circuit all 31 British F3 drivers took the opportunity for free practice on the Thursday, in dry conditions. By the following day it was raining at times which made the qualifying sessions difficult and Gonzalez finished up a bit further back than normal.
In the races Gonzalez battled hard, around the street circuit and in Race 1 moved from 16th place up to 10th at the flag and in Race 2 he battled with championship leader Marco Asmer and finished 5th on the road, before a 6 second penalty moved him back to 10th place.
Both races had several Safety car periods to remove crashed cars from the tight track.
As Gonzalez commented at the end of the weekend "I think it was a difficult weekend for me and the T-Sport team. Qualifying was not so great but we did improve the car for both races which made life a lot easier. I think I did a good job to finish 10th in the first race, but in the second race I did even better to come from 12th to 5th although unfortunately I was penalised and dropped to 10th place. So far I have not seen any evidence on which the race steward made his decision to penalise me so I find the whole situation very strange and we are in a process of appeal".
