Sebring International Raceway Thursday and Friday. Quickest over the course of the two days was Andy Lally registering an unofficial quick time of 1:00.795 sec. around the 1.9-mile test circuit.
Lally was followed closely by Nazareth race winner Sepp Koster who recorded a fast time of 1:00.804 sec with Matt Plumb a further .013 sec adrift. Brent Sherman, Marc Breuers, and Jon Vannini all recorded quick times within a tenth of a second of Lally. Skip Barber Formula Dodge Southern Race Series champion Craig Duerson only took part in the first day of the test, but set a solid time nevertheless just two-tenths of a second over the quickest time. Also taking part in the two day test was Jeff Morton, who will take his first Barber Dodge Start of 2000 at the Raceway on Belle Isle in Detroit when the Barber Dodge Pro Series returns on the trail with the CART FedEx Series. Morton used the two days to re-acclimate himself with the Barber Dodge Reynard, which he hasn’t driven since that same event last year.
Lally has been impressive in his debut season with the Pro Series scoring two-third-place finishes in as many starts. Lally is a two-time World Karting Association National Champion, and was a Valvoline Team USA Scholarship recipient enabling him to race with 1998-99 Barber Dodge Pro Series Champion Jeff Simmons in the Winter Palmer Audi Series in England.
“I took yesterday to get acclimated with the car again and learn the track,” said Lally of his first visit to the Sebring test circuit. “Today I was making fine adjustments to the car to tune it to my driving style, and went faster and faster”
The next round of the Barber Dodge Pro Series at Lime rock Park on May 26-29 will be Lally first opportunity to race a road course with the Pro Series following races on both the Nazareth and Homestead ovals.
“I haven’t raced at Lime Rock since 1996,” Lally added, “but I’m optimistic. If you’re off your game though, everybody is so quick that you don’t even have a hope of a Top-10 finish.”
Joining the Barber Dodge regulars were Skip Barber Formula Dodge racers Matt Franc and Gilles Tinguely, and from Holland was Jeroen Reijntjens making an exploratory test with the Pro Series for the first time. <pre> Test Times:
