WGI SEEKS FAN NOMINATATIONS FOR 2010 LEGENDS OF THE GLEN
Fans Have Until Saturday, October 31 to Send Nominations to Racing@TheGlen.com
Watkins Glen, NY (September 13, 2009) -- The history of racing at Watkins Glen reaches an impressive 61 years and there are few people that know The Glen's history better than the fans. In an attempt to tap into that extensive knowledge and allow fans to have an impact on the honoring of that history, Watkins Glen International is looking for fan nominations for the next class of the Legends of The Glen. Nominations can be submitted starting immediately until Saturday, October 31. The 2010 Class of the Legends of The Glen will be announced over the course of the 2010 season.
"We understand the importance of having our fans involved with what we do at this track," stated Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. "It only makes sense for them to be involved with our nominating process."
The Legends of The Glen was started in 2008 as part of the 60th anniversary of racing in Watkins Glen and continues to be awarded in honor of individuals that have made a significant impact on The Glen's history. So far nine people have been inducted in the program. More information can be found at www.TheGlen.com.
The guidelines for submitting nominations are very simple and fans are welcome to submit as many as they wish. All nominations can be sent to the WGI email address, firstname.lastname@example.org, and must include the person's name, a list of their accomplishments at The Glen, and a brief explanation detailing the reasons that the person deserves to be included in the Legends of The Glen. They can also be mailed to Watkins Glen International -- Legends, 2790 County Rte. 16, Watkins Glen, N.Y. 14891. Fans can nominate anyone that has had a positive and/or significant impact on WGI and its history. This includes team owners, former WGI staff, officials, and any current or retired driver. The only requirement is that fans only include the accomplishments achieved at The Glen and not at other locations.
The 2009 race season at Watkins Glen International comes to a close today with the conclusion of the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix. Lyn St. James was the weekend's honored guest and grand marshal and spent the entire weekend reminiscing with fellow racers, friends and fans at Watkins Glen International. Renewals for the 2010 season will go out later this month while tickets will go on sale in November.
