MOORESVILLE, N.C., (January 26, 2005) ---- UPS announced today that it is extending its relationship with International Speedway Corporation (ISC) by becoming an exclusive track sponsor of California Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Richmond International Raceway.
These tracks in dispersed geographic locations host premier races throughout the NASCAR schedule and complement UPS's existing presence at Daytona International Speedway. That relationship as the official delivery company for the track began in 2001 and will continue through 2008 with the other tracks. New this year will be the UPS presence on Tri-Vision® signage and fan transportation, another link to the speed of activity on the track with service for the fans and the UPS commitment to service for global package delivery for the motorsports industry.
"This partnership with UPS represents a commitment with a major corporation that recognizes ISC's national footprint and the strong fan demographics delivered by our events," said Paul Phipps, ISC Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "We look forward to working with UPS as we continue to build on a strong business relationship."
Beyond branding presence at the tracks, UPS will coordinate both outbound and inbound shipments, including ticket packages and merchandise for vendor concessions. As the official delivery company of NASCAR, UPS continues its unique UPS Trackside Services shipping counters in secured garage areas of all NEXTEL Cup race events for those critical parts and supplies needed to keep race teams in top performance through the race weekend and for convenient, quick movement to the next track.
The expanded ISC relationship delivers on UPS's sponsorship strategy for leadership in the sport and to showcase the company's global services across the motorsports supply chain. "Our sponsorships continue to evolve and grow within NASCAR," said Patrick Guilbert, UPS vice president of Corporate Events and Sponsorships. "When you link the distinction of our service to NASCAR to our association with Robert Yates Racing, strong advertising support and now the increased presence with these four ISC tracks, it's a solid foundation to not only sustain the sport but grow UPS business opportunity."
Since 2000, UPS has been an official status partner as the Official Express Delivery Company of NASCAR. The company has built unique programs for fan appeal, business growth and employee involvement. Its popular "Race the Truck" advertising campaign has won recognition for strong brand association and promotion of the sport and promises surprises in the new season.
In addition to the new track sponsorships, UPS will be providing UPS Trackside Service operations for the NASCAR Busch Series race in Mexico City in March 2005 and providing logistical services to NASCAR for delivering the series to Mexico. "With NASCAR's expansion to Mexico this year, we can plug the NASCAR family right into UPS's global services to go south of the border to easily and quickly move the vehicles, equipment and documentation that it takes to run a race series weekend," Guilbert added.
UPS enters its fifth year as primary sponsor of the #88 UPS Ford Taurus driven by Dale Jarrett for Robert Yates Racing. Jarrett extends his leadership as a premier driver to the shared commitment of UPS drivers in their big, brown trucks together with a team of more than 360,000 dedicated employees around the world. Building on the sport's growing popularity and fan loyalty, UPS provides updated information about UPS Racing, the #88 team performance, features and photography and access to licensed merchandise at www.racing.ups.com.
