Seven and a half square kilometres of world-class motor racing facilitie to open in Dubai in 14 months.

United Arab Emirates, 13th April 2002 - Today sees the unveiling of plans for the Middle East's only world-class motor racing facility, by Union Properties PJSC. The Dubai Autodrome and Business Park - seven and a half square kilometres of pure motor sports, encompassing a five kilometre FIA approved Formula One Race track - will be completed by Union Properties in just 14 months.

The Dubai Autodrome and Business Park will also house a 1.2km full indoor and outdoor go-karting track, an off-road driving course and a driver handling centre, which will be specifically for advanced driver training. Motorcross bikes will be raced on a specially designed track, whilst the motor racing academy will offer courses in driving single seater motor racing cars.

The Business Park which is an integral part of the Dubai Autodrome will have a selection of specifically designed warehouses to cater for the motoring and motor sports industry. The retail showrooms will also cater for national and international companies in the motoring and motor sports industry, in addition to a grandstand as well as food and beverage outlets, function rooms and corporate hospitality facilities.

Mr Anis Al Jallaf, Chairman of Union Properties said, "On behalf of the board of directors I would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister for his vision and support, without which, the Autodrome facility would not have been possible. The Dubai Autodrome and Business Park has been in development for about 6 months, and during this time we have sought to maximise the potential of such a vast opportunity for the motoring community."

Mr Al Jallaf added, "The venue must not be mistaken for just a Formula One track, as it is much, much more than this and has been intentionally set up from a business perspective. Not only are we offering the motoring community their own purpose built area for racing and trading, but the Autodrome will also put Dubai on the map with regard to international motor sports events."

Mr Simon Azzam, Chief Executive Office of Union Properties said, "This is a very exciting and internationally interesting project which has already attracted enquiries from international motoring companies. Our aim is to provide facilities to the highest international standards and at the same time, contribute towards educating and entertaining the community in all aspects of driving and motor racing."

Paul Berger, Director of Middle East Racing Services Ltd, who will be involved with Union Properties in developing the plans for the Autodrome said, "The Formula One race track, which is about the same length as Silverstone in the United Kingdom, will be built to full FIA specifications so it can accommodate Formula One racing cars, which can then be used for winter time testing and other events."
