TORRANCE, Calif. (Nov. 21, 2001) - Having just conquered the world-renowned SCORE Baja 1000, four resolute racers claimed 2001 Toyota True Grit Awards, while 10 others join them in earning Toyota Milestone Awards.
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites - who complete every required mile in the five-race 2001 SCORE Desert Series and have the largest cumulative point total in each class - split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit Award prize fund.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to SCORE off-road competitors in all professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the series.
Rob MacCachren (Class 1/2-1600), George Seeley Jr. (Class 5), Danny Anderson (Class 10) and Ron Dalke (SCORE Lites) will equally share the Toyota True Grit prize of $12,000 while also winning Toyota Milestone Awards.
The other off-road racers to be honored with Toyota Milestone Awards include the Trophy-Truck team of Dave Ashley and Dan Smith; Troy Herbst, Jeff Quinn and Steve Sourapas in Class 1; Allan Gregory in Class 5-1600; Michael James in Class 5; Cisco Bio in Class 9; Steve Myers in Class 10; Eric Solorzano in Class 11; and Scott Steinberger in Protruck.
"Toyota is proud to honor the best drivers off-road racing has to offer," said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "For the last 16 years, we have had the privilege of presenting the Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet."
The Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards will be presented at the SCORE Awards Banquet on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.
