Toyota continues to honor the best in Off-Road Racing with the True Grit and Milestone Awards

In a salute to the rugged participants of the SCORE International Off-Road Racing series, Toyota will continue presenting Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards in 2002. As it has for 16 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the desert racers who finish every mile of every race in the five-race SCORE series.

"Toyota is proud to have presented the True Grit and Milestone awards for 16 years," said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "It is a remarkable feat to complete every mile in a sport as demanding as off-road racing."

Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who complete every required mile in the five-race SCORE Desert Series, and have the largest cumulative point total in each class, split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit prize fund. In 2001, the recipients were Rob MacCachren (Class 1/2-1600), George Seeley Jr. (Class 5), Danny Anderson (Class 10) and Ron Dalke (SCORE Lites).

Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the five-race series. In addition to the four racers mentioned above, 11 other off-road racers won 2001 Toyota Milestone Awards: the Trophy-Truck team of Dave Ashley and Dan Smith; Troy Herbst, Jeff Quinn and Steve Sourapas in Class 1; Allan Gregory in Class 5-1600; Michael James in Class 5; Cisco Bio in Class 9; Steve Myers in Class 10; Eric Solorzano in Class 11; and Scott Steinberger in Protruck.

The Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end SCORE Awards Banquet in December. The first race of 2002 will be the Laughlin Desert Challenge, Jan. 24-27 in Laughlin, Nev.
