FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Feb. 16, 1999) – With the March 25 grand opening gala celebration just weeks away, the number of members is on the rise for The Speedway Club.
The spectacular $35 million, nine-story structure will offer fine dining, a "state-of-the-art" health club and spa, and more than 26,000-square-feet of banquet and meeting space. It also offers the opportunity to rub elbows with some of racing’s best drivers.
"Each of the winners from our premier race events will automatically become members of The Speedway Club," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "We announced and started the new tradition with the Lone Star 500 Pep Boys Indy Racing League event last fall. John Paul Jr. won that race and is now officially a member of the club."
Several other racing greats are already members, including Indy legends and Texas residents Johnny Rutherford, A.J. Foyt and Jim McElreath as well as current Pep Boys Indy Racing League driver Greg Ray, also a resident of The Lone Star State.
The Speedway Club already has hundreds of members through individual and corporate memberships.
"We have been very pleased with the response," said The Speedway Club general manager Bernard van Mourik. "We will have quite a ‘who’s who’ in the club, especially around event time."
Membership will provide access to the club and all its privileges, including: all dining facilities; the health club and spa; conference meeting space and event banquet rooms; special parking in front of The Speedway Club; special member events such as track tours and driving schools; exclusive rights to other speedway events and a reciprocal membership agreement with The Speedway Club at Lowe’s (Charlotte) Motor Speedway and other private clubs.
