FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Nov. 30, 2000) - The holiday season springs to life at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Dec. 5, with the annual holiday tree lighting. In addition, Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) will be awarding more than $350,000 in grants to groups in the Fort Worth-Dallas area that night. Ninety-nine (99) charitable groups who benefit or help children will be presented checks as a result of the year-long fund-raisingcampaign by Speedway Children's Charities.

"We are especially pleased to be able to provide financial assistance to the many outstanding organizations that help children in our area," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "For the endless effort these charitable groups give to children, this is just a way for Texas Motor Speedway to express our gratitude for such important work being done by these agencies."

Speedway Children's Charities annually administers special fund-raising activities at Texas Motor Speedway to benefit the organizations that apply for the grants. Since the construction of the speedway four years ago, SCC has presented more than $1,000,000 to charitable children's organizations.

The festive evening next Tuesday (Dec. 5) begins with Victorian carolers at 5:50 p.m. in front of The Speedway Club. SCC board members Pam Minick and Scott Murray will join speedway general manager Eddie Gossage for the tree lighting countdown at 6:20 p.m. The tree lighting will be televised live on KXAS-TV, Channel 5, during Murray's sportscast. The holiday event also features a visit from Santa as well as Sparky, the official speedway mascot. Following the tree lighting ceremony, the special SCC grants and awards will be presented.
