HERNDON, VA (January 15, 2001) -- The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) announced today that CARQUEST Auto Parts has teamed up with the Team ASE Motorsports Program for the 2001 racing season through an associate sponsorship of the #2 Team ASE NASCAR Truck.
"We are pleased that CARQUEST is supporting ASE's goal of furthering the promotion of our Blue Seal logo and the ASE professional automotive technician through our Team ASE racing program," said Ron Weiner, ASE President. "CARQUEST is a long time supporter of the ASE certification programs, and this sponsorship again demonstrates their commitment to promoting the professionalism inherent in the ASE mission. ASE was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, independent entity dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive technicians. Today nearly 420,000 automotive service and repair professionals hold current ASE certifications. The #2 Team ASE / Ultra Motorsports Dodge Craftsman Truck, owned by Marlene and Jim Smith of Ultra Motorsports, will have a new driver for the 2001 season - Scott Riggs of Durham, North Carolina. This will be Riggs' first full season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Scott, considered by many a hot young prospect, has had a successful motorsports career in the Mid-Atlantic Region, then in 1999 moved into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Last season, competing on a limited schedule, he finished with one Top 5, eight Top 10's and seven Top 10 starting positions. Along with the Team ASE truck sponsorship, CARQUEST will also participate with ASE in the hunt for a national championship through their other motorsports efforts that include the United States Auto Club (USAC) midget series, entries of Lewis Racing and Silver Crown Sprint Car Series with Beast Enterprises, along with ASE's Grassroots Racing program. The ASE Grassroots Racing Program has grown into a major awareness effort, with teams in all 50 states and Canada displaying Team ASE logos, decals, and caps. Technicians can join the Team ASE Grass Roots racing program by contacting ASE through their web site.
