Skip Barber Racing School Comes To Daytona International Speedway
(LAKEVILLE, Conn.) Oct. 26, 2001- Skip Barber Racing School now offers its world renowned programs at Daytona International Speedway, the World Center Of Racing. Skip Barber Three Day Racing School and Introduction to Racing courses will take place on a brand new road course contained within Daytona's world famous tri-oval.
Using parts of the infield portion of the 24-hour course, a new circuit has been created to form a 1.68-mile nine-turn road course. New paving has created a billiard smooth surface.
"Personally, I am very excited about this. I can remember being a young boy and attending an SCCA regional school taught by my father here in 1959 and wanting to drive at Daytona," said Terry Earwood, Chief Instructor for Skip Barber Racing School. "Now fans who have always dreamed of road racing Daytona will have the first opportunity to participate in a professional racing school there. This course is going to be an exciting and challenging course. It's a great mix of slow and fast corners."
"Daytona International Speedway is extremely excited about this new opportunity with Skip Barber. We will now have a professional road racing school operating in our infield while other activities are being conducted on our oval track. This certainly gives us the best of both racing worlds," said track president John Graham Jr.
Skip Barber Racing Schools are not the only opportunity that drivers will have to enjoy the new Daytona course. The Skip Barber Race Series will compete on the same course this winter. The Dodge/Skip Barber Driving School will host One and Two Day Driving Schools there beginning in November of 2001 as well. Daytona joins the likes of Road America, Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, Lime Rock Park and 15 other tracks as a program venue.
