NASCAR on FOX earned strong ratings opposite its toughest competition to date. Sunday's Winston Cup race from Darlington (3/18/01) fired a 6.1/15 nationally, airing against the NCAA Tournament, the NBA and The Bay Hill Invitational won by Tiger Woods on NBC.

The 6.1/15 for Darlington is a +74% increase from how the race performed on cable last year (3.5/9 total US rating on ESPN). NASCAR held up very well against the NCAA Tournament. Darlington's 6.1/15 is +15% higher than the average of all 15 first and second round telecasts on CBS (5.3/13). NASCAR also beat the first weekend Tourney average in male demos: +21% M18-34 (5.1 vs. 4.2), +50% M18-49 (6.3 vs. 4.2), and +52% M25-54 (6.7 vs. 4.4).

Head-to-head, NASCAR beat the first two games of Sunday's NCAA tripleheader by +24% (6.1 vs. 4.9). NASCAR's leads over the NBA on NBC continue to be enormous, beating this Sunday's game by +165% in Homes, +219% on M18-34, +350% on M18-49, and +319% on M25-54. Season-to-date, NASCAR Winston Cup on FOX is up: +26% for all broadcast races (7.2/17 vs. 5.7/15). In key demos, the increases are even more impressive: +55% M18-34 (6.2 vs. 4.0), +46% M18-49 (7.6 vs. 5.2) and + 37% M25-54 (8.1 vs. 5.9).
