Gerry Horn Promoted to Vice President Post
CONCORD, N.C. (May 3, 2005) - Veteran broadcasting executive Doug Rice has been promoted to president and general manager of Performance Racing Network and Gerry Horn, a 20-year veteran of corporate sales, was elevated to vice president of PRN sales.
The announcement was made by H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., Performance Racing Network's parent company.
Rice joined PRN in 1988 as director of affiliates and, after serving in other managerial positions, was named vice president and general manager in 1999. In addition to overseeing the network's operations, Rice has also served as co-anchor alongside Mark Garrow on all PRN race broadcasts since 1994.
Under Rice's direction, PRN has grown to one of the largest radio networks in professional sports. The network broadcasts 10 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races and eight NASCAR Busch series events at Speedway Motorsports, Inc. facilities. It also produces numerous other motorsports-related programs including "Fast Talk with Benny Parsons," "PRN's Garage Pass" and "The ALLTEL Pit Reporters."
"Doug has done a tremendous job building and refining PRN," said Wheeler. "Under his direction, the quality of the broadcast production, programming and growth has been phenomenal."
Prior to joining PRN, Rice worked as the morning show host on WSTP in Salisbury, N.C. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University.
Horn joined PRN in 2002 after serving as vice president of business development for Market Velocity, and spending nine years as director of sponsorship sales for the Charlotte Hornets NBA franchise. Horn earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Performance Racing Network is a subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE:TRK), a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. Its programming airs on more than 700 radio stations, XM Satellite Radio and NASCAR.com.
