LAS VEGAS -- While 911 has long been the universal phone number for emergencies, 9-11 has a different meaning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. At LVMS, 9-11 (September 11) is the first day tickets will be available to the public for the March 4, 2001, NASCAR Winston Cup event at the speedway. "Most people keep the number 911 in their mind in case of an emergency, but at Las Vegas Motor Speedway it is cause for a sense of urgency," said Chris Powell, the speedway's executive vice president and general manager. "September 11, or 9-11 as you might write on your checks, is the earliest we have put tickets on sale here. And everyone who orders tickets on Sept. 11 will be given their seat assignments at the time of purchase. That also has not been done in the past." Tickets orders will be accepted beginning at 7 a.m. (Pacific Time). Race fans may purchase tickets in person at the speedway ticket office, via telephone by calling 1-800-644-4444 or over the internet by logging on to Tickets.com. Ticket orders will be accepted for all reserved seating areas and camping spaces. Fans also can purchase tickets to the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series event, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 3. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws will compete on the speedway's half-mile dirt track for three nights beginning Thursday, March 1 and concluding Saturday, March 3.
