FAENZA, ITALY, October 5, 2001 -- European Minardi F1 is today pleased to announce that it has entered an important alliance with 3D Systems of Valencia, California (Nasdaq: TDSC), that will see the team using 3D Systems' ground-breaking stereolithography (SLA 7000 system) and, in the future, selective laser sintering (SLS) technologies to assist with wind tunnel modelling, rapid prototyping, and the production of vehicle componentry.
The team will reap immediate benefits from the adoption of this technology, which facilitates the integration of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and rapid modelling for the wind tunnel, dramatically reduces the production time of a range of components, and significantly improves data security.
A full technical support package will include the involvement of a 3D engineering team working on-site with the team's technical staff, under Technical Director, Gabriele Tredozi, and the Research and Development team, headed by Dr John Davis, based at Ledbury, in the UK.
"We're delighted to launch this alliance with European Minardi," says 3D Systems Senior Director of Business Development, Motorsports, John Murray. "Strategically, it represents European Minardi's commitment to closing the technical gap to its rivals. The power of the 3D Systems technology is to take a process that used to require weeks to complete and reduce that time to days. We are proud to be involved with the team and look forward to the arrival of our engineers on site so they can begin to assist the team with ramping up its competitiveness. We fully expect many exciting innovations to emerge from this co-operative venture, as there is literally no limit to what can be accomplished with the technology."
For European Minardi, Team Principal, Paul Stoddart, comments, "We are constantly looking for technologies and systems that will provide us with a quantum leap rather than an incremental improvement in our performance in order to close the gap to our rivals on the grid as rapidly as possible. We believe this alliance with 3D Systems, in terms of both the technology and the support package being provided, will greatly assist the team in its quest to do just that."
The 3D logo will appear on the European Minardi F1 entries of Fernando Alonso and Alex Yoong with immediate effect, marking the first time the company has publicised its involvement with the world's most technically demanding form of motor racing. Aside from its headquarters in California, 3D Systems also maintains international offices in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Hong Kong and Japan.
