DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 15, 2001) -- Stacy Compton's front-row qualifying effort for the 43rd annual Daytona 500 has helped Melling Racing solidify two new associate sponsors -- PSI by Johnson Controls and SPX Service Solutions. Johnson Controls and SPX Service Solutions will partner with Melling Racing for the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season, beginning with Sunday's Daytona 500.
"We're very proud to have PSI by Johnson Controls and SPX Service Solutions join our team of sponsors," said Compton, driver of the No. 92 Kodiak Dodge. "We've had a great week so far, and it has already paid off for Melling Racing and our sponsors Kodiak, Dodge, Autoliv, Worldcom and Duckhead Footwear. We hope that this week is the beginning of Melling Racing's return to the consistently competitive race team it was in the 1980s."
The Johnson Controls PSI mirror is a tire-pressure monitoring system that uses radio frequency (RF) technology to deliver timely and accurate pressure information within one pound per square inch (psi). Small transmitters integrated into special tire valves send data directly to a receiver integrated within a windshield-mounted rear-view mirror. When the system is activated, the actual pressure of each tire is shown on a back-lit display. When pressures fall below certain thresholds, visual and audible means of alerting the driver are utilized. Johnson Controls, Inc. is a global market leader in automotive systems and facility management and control. In the automotive market, it is a major supplier of seating and interior systems, and batteries.
