LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas Motor Speedway's third annual Open House is slated for Feb. 17.
Free track tours, race car displays, autograph sessions, discounted merchandise and food and games for children are all on the schedule for the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NASCAR Winston West Series champion Brendan Gaughan and local Late Model Stock driver Chuck Trickle will sign autographs from noon-2 p.m.
Several show cars including George Marnell's Pro Stock, Gaughan's No.16 NAPA/Martin Senour Chevrolet, and Trickle's NASCAR Late Model will be on display.
Fans are invited to visit displays from the Richard Petty Driving Experience, CART Driving 101, Derek Daly Academy, and 600 Racing. The Richard Petty Driving Experience will be on track that day offering rides at $99 for three laps, where passengers will reach speeds of 165 miles per hour. Fans also can register to win ride-alongs and driving experiences, which will be given away each hour.
The grand prize of the day is being donated by the Derek Daly Driving Academy and is a one-day driving school valued at $900.
Worried about missing the big race at Daytona? LVMS has it covered with a tent and a big-screen TV. There will also be huge savings on concessions, including $1 dogs and $.50 sodas. There also will be discounted merchandise in the Speedway World Gift Shop.
Children's activities will include an inflatable "sea monster" obstacle course and other contests with chances to win prizes. KOMP 92.3-FM also will be on property broadcasting from 9 a.m. until noon.
