DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 23, 1999) Ken Clapp, a long-time executive with NASCAR who most recently was serving as vice president of marketing development, has announced his retirement. Clapp will continue to consult on selected NASCAR special projects as an independent contractor.

Clapp, who is based on the west coast, was responsible for the sanctioning body's California office which has been located in Scotts Valley. He has had a wide variety of responsibilities during his tenure. "Ken has been instrumental in developing and growing NASCAR's west coast series and operations with my family and NASCAR," said Bill France, president of NASCAR. "He has been a great ambassador for our sport. As we look to the future, our sport will continue to benefit from Ken's broad experience in motorsports."
