Montreal - June 13, 2000 - Ubi Soft announces its partnership agreement with Jacques Villeneuve to design a new car racing game that projects us into the years 2010-2020. The release of the simulation game will be held at the same time as a virtual competition on the Internet.
Known for his love of new technology, Jacques Villeneuve is the concept originator of a simulation game using creative rules. WEG Management was commissioned to develop the project. Because of its wide experience and already proven success in automobile racing simulation, Ubi Soft has been chosen to produce and release the new game designed in collaboration with Jacques Villeneuve. He will lend his expertise throughout the entire design and development process.
Jacques Villeneuve will advise the Ubi Soft team in creating a new discipline that envisions what car racing competition might be like in the years 2010/2020. Taking place on urban tracks in the world's most beautiful cities, the three-dimensional game will offer graphics and technical innovations that give players a strong and unique feeling of what it's like to be a racing driver. Jacques Villeneuve also wants to stress the qualities of a driver by putting fairer rules in place. Production will be done in Ubi Soft's Montreal studios by a highly experienced team of developers.
Parallel with the game, an Internet competition will allow car racing fans from around the world to race against each other. To get a virtual driver's permit that allows them to take part in the competition, players must first follow a driving course. Jacques Villeneuve's advice will give competitors the opportunity to learn, step by step, to face the difficulties of the various tracks. At the close of this competition, the 20 best racing drivers will have the chance to measure themselves against Jacques Villeneuve on a new track specially designed for the occasion. The first winner of the virtual contest will be awarded.
"Sharing my love of motor sport in a virtual world is a project that's been close to my heart, and now, I want to get personally involved in it. Working with Ubi Soft lets us offer an original game that meets my requirements," explains Jacques Villeneuve.
"We, at Ubi Soft, are proud of our association with Jacques Villeneuve, because for us, it represents a partnership among people who are professionals in their fields and guarantees a game that will be very close to the real feeling of racing," adds Yves Guillemot, Ubi Soft's CEO.
The game release and Internet competition are planned for Autumn 2001 for PCs, as well as for new generation consoles with Internet access.
