FONTANA, Calif., Wednesday, March 13, 2002 - Yamaha will be the title sponsor of the inaugural Indy Racing League event at California Speedway on March 24, track and Yamaha officials announced March 13.

The Yamaha Indy 400 is the third race in the 15-event Indy Racing League schedule in 2002. The race starts at 3:30 p.m. (EST) March 24 and will be televised live on ESPN.

"The excitement for our upcoming Indy Racing League event continues to build, and to add Yamaha as the event title sponsor increases the overall prestige of the weekend," said Bill Miller, president of California Speedway. "Southern California motorsports fans are in for a great show when the Indy Racing League comes to town. We thank Yamaha for their support in coming on board as title sponsor and look forward to an exciting weekend."

The Yamaha Indy 400 will be the Indy Racing League's debut on the West Coast. The 400-mile race on the 2-mile oval will be only the second event in series history longer than 312 miles, with the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race as the longest event.

Tickets for the Yamaha Indy 400 are available by calling (800) 944-RACE (7223) or via the speedway's Web site at www.californiaspeedway.com <http://www.californiaspeedway.com>. The weekend also features the speedway's inaugural road-course event - the Grand American 400 Rolex Sports Car Series race March 23. Yamaha Indy 400 MBNA Pole Qualifying is also scheduled for Saturday.
