(Indianapolis, IN) Heritage Motorsports, an INDY Racing League team that was formed in January 2001, is back on the racetrack in Nashville this weekend after a one- week layoff. The team withdrew from IRL competition earlier this month at Kansas in an effort to refocus and prepare for the final half of the season. Heritage Motorsports is finalizing an agreement with a sponsor, and will announce the details early next week. The new alliance will help give the first year team the funding necessary to operate at the highly competitive level the owners desire.

"Getting back on the track as soon as possible is best for everyone on the team," John Mecom III, co-owner of Heritage Motorsports, said. "It was a disappointment to have to miss the Kansas race, but that was the right move for the team at that time. Sometimes you need to take one step back to get two steps forward, and that is what we have done with this short break. We will continue to make the necessary adjustments needed to achieve our long-term goals. We're fortunate to find the financial backing at this time that we need to run competitively. We have not altered our original plan, which is to build a model open-wheel organization."

With a new sponsor on board, Heritage is looking to finish the season as strong as it began. Qualifying third, first and second in the first three races, the team finished no lower than seventh in each race. Heritage Motorsports driver, Jeff Ward, remains in the top ten in series points, and is looking to be a threat for the remainder of the season.
