INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 - The Indy Racing League and Coors Brewing Company will continue a longtime partnership in 2002 with Coors continuing as the Official Beer of the Indy Racing League.
In addition, Coors has extended a longtime partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the Official Beer of the Indianapolis 500 and as the sponsor of the Coors Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge and Coors Carb Day during the Indianapolis 500.
Coors Brewing Company has sponsored the Pit Stop Competition, which takes place during May each year as part of the Indianapolis 500, since 1996. The company has sponsored Carburetion Day since 1999. Carburetion Day takes place traditionally on the Thursday before the Indianapolis 500, the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
"The Coors Brewing Company is proud to continue our relationship and partnership with the Indy Racing League," said Steve Saunders, event marketing director for Coors Brewing Company. "This program has proven to be very beneficial to our brands and our sales team in the past, and we look forward to the 2002 season with the Indy Racing League.

Coors has an enjoyed a strong relationship with Indy Racing and the Indianapolis 500 since 1983. Besides the extension of its Official Beer status and its sponsorships of Carburetion Day and related activities, the company also has sponsored a variety of top teams and drivers in Indy Racing and the Indianapolis 500, including Galles Racing, Hemelgarn Racing, Al Unser Jr., Buddy Lazier and Pancho Carter.
