EPPING, NH -- In a press conference at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, N.H., longtime IHRA freelance writer Bobby Bennett, Jr. announced plans to debut an Internet magazine, which will use IHRA Championship Drag Racing as the focal point. The bi-weekly Internet magazine will debut on September 15, 1999 at 7 PM. This innovative new venture will be called Competition Plus and can be accessed by www.competitionplus.com. There are no fees to access as the innovative publication will be free to readers and those that choose to browse.
Bennett admits the magazine was created out of necessity.
"We believe in IHRA Championship Drag Racing and think it provides the industry with the best drag racers in the sport. Besides the IHRA website, there are no real Internet entities out there that focus on IHRA as their focal point. I feel that the IHRA deserves better than partial coverage."
Though he plans to field his own publication, he very much intends to continue with his support of IHRA's Drag Review magazine.
"I have every intention of continuing to work with Drag Review to make it the best printed magazine in the industry. It was my goal when Geoff Stunkard brought me back into the fold for a second stint, to help the magazine become the best sanctioning body publication. I still believe we can reach that goal. What we are doing with Competition Plus will only enhance what the IHRA does."
He laughs and continues, "It will have an attitude, that's for sure, considering that I'm not the most quiet person in the world. But, that's what keeps the readers coming back. Now is the time for everyone that has complained at the lack of IHRA publicity in the past to stand up and help us make it. This can be a positive for all of us."
Harley Communications will publish Competition Plus and Bennett will serve as the executive editor. Last year's Drag Review Contributor Of The Year will employ the same energetic staff that has enabled Harley Communications to become the largest public relations firm in the IHRA at 18 clients. Their client list includes such names as Bruce Litton, Von Smith, Johnny Mancuso, Floyd Cheek, Shannon Jenkins, Johnny Rocca and Larry Snyder just to name a few.
