5-Year Anniversary Marks Major Turn Around for The HANS Device
Atlanta, Georgia (March 7, 2006) - HANS Performance Products, manufacturer, worldwide leader and inventor of the internationally award winning HANS Device gets to reminisce about what the past 5 years have done for them.
For the HANS Device, it's a bittersweet story. While the drivers and fans of motorsport are reflecting on the past 5 years without Dale Earnhardt, HANS Performance Products is celebrating the lives they have been able to save.
When asked for comment, CEO Mark Stiles said, "In the 1990's, we sold maybe 250 devices the whole decade. After Earnhardt Sr. died, we sold 250 devices that year. We're upset that the motorsport world had to loose a great leader before realizing how critical basalar skull fractures can be, but to look on the positive side, with 20,000 devices sold, we've had the opportunity to save 20,000 lives."
As noticed by many in the racing industry, the opinions of the HANS Device have changed dramatically over the past 5 years. Mike Skinner, now fulltime in NASCAR's Truck Series was quoted saying, "Yeah I had some wrecks before the HANS that really hurt me. This past year, I had a right-front tire blow out at Michigan and I probably hit harder than I did at Atlanta. And I went and practiced my Cup car 15 minutes later."
Another one for words is Jeff Gordon, "The HANS Device was something I had tried before, but I wasn't comfortable with it," Jeff Gordon recalls. "After Dale died, it was like, 'We have to make this work.'"
Five years on from Dale Earnhardt's death, all drivers in NASCAR's Nextel, Busch, Craftsman Truck, Regional and Touring Series wear HANS Devices. Last year, the same year NASCAR became 'SFI 38.1 HANS ONLY', was also the first year that no NASCAR driver suffered a serious injury in a wreck.
