According to GMP General Manager Dan Elliott, one of the most impressive additions to the former Peach State Speedway half-mile oval is the multi-purpose Infield Event Center.
"The building is 5,200 square feet and will have a concession stand, rest rooms, an office, tech storage and racecar tech area," said Elliott in describing the structure. "We made the Infield Event Center a bit bigger than normal because we can use it for multiple infield events like car shows, local business meetings and other gatherings. It offers a great place to have any kind of activity with a large meeting space that's 3,000 square feet. We can also put tents on either side of the building to expand the meeting or exhibit space. The new Infield Event Center offers a lot of opportunity to have a wide variety of usage."
Of course, one of the main functions of the new GMP Infield Event Center will be as a Technical Center for race events and testing. Elliott is particularly pleased with the way this area is coming around as the building speeds toward completion.
"The ability to tech cars through the building or on the side of the building is a real plus," Elliott stated. "If you are here racing during the heat of the summer, being able to tech your car where its inside, out of the heat, will make it much more comfortable and convenient for our officials and racers. Because the building has two drive-thru bays, we'll also have the ability to tech two different racing series at one time.
"The office area will be key to any teams -- especially NASCAR teams -- who come to test here," Elliott continued. "They will be able to go in there and print out their lap times. If they select our premium testing program, they will be able to break down their laps times and give a printout of every lap segment by segment thanks to the loop scoring system we will have."
Elliott is also quick to point out that when completed, the GMP Infield Event Center as well as the rest of the facility will be the result of a solid effort by a large number of people.
"I am very proud of the people who have worked here and the progress that has been made," said Elliott. "We have expected and asked a lot of them. They have really pushed hard and the results show it."
