LAS VEGAS, NV (October 14, 2001) - Rick Garrels was named the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Drivers Association Driver of the Year Saturday evening at The Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.

Garrels was honored at the sixth-annual gala banquet event, sponsored by ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence). The evening was highlighted by several awards and capped by the selection of Garrels as the top over the road chauffer in the association. Garrels is the driver of the Bobby Hamilton Racing, No. 18 Dana Dodge transporter.

ASE awarded Garrels $500 in cash, a $500 Snap On Tools gift certificate and a crystal trophy. Garrels, who goes by the nickname of "Hammer," is also the outgoing President of the association.

Frank Hodel, driver of the Addington Racing No. 60 Cat Rental Stores Chevrolet transporter, and Greg Page, driver of the Ultra Motorsports No. 2 Team ASE Dodge hauler, tied for runner-up honors in the Driver of the Year competition. Both received $250 Snap On Tools gift certificates, courtesy of ASE.
