SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In a major announcement, VSM Abrasives have joined the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) sponsorship family by becoming the title name of the Canadian Invasion Tour for 2002. Labeled the VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion Tour 2002 for the Empire Super Sprints, the stars and cars of ESS will be vying for $5,000 to be distributed in a separate point fund.

For the upcoming season there are 11 events held "North of the Border", points awarded in these events will be tallied and the driver with the most will take home a record $1,500 from the posted award. With the backing from VSM, this is a record amount which will be given out at the annual awards banquet which to be held on Nov. 16th at the Turning Stone Casino in Vernon, N.Y.

VSM Abrasives has been manufacturing quality coated abrasive products for more than 136 years. Originally founded in Hannover, Germany in 1864, the company initially marketed to European manufacturers. Due to the high demand for their products in Europe, VSM decided to expand their territory to the United States. In 1978, VSM broke ground to build a manufacturing plant in O'Fallon, Missouri. Today that plant services all of the United States as well as assists Mexico and Canada.

VSM Canada is located in Oakville, Ontario which entices the sponsorship of the Canadian Invasion Tour. The VSM logo is also proudly displayed at each ESS event with sophomore sensation and second generation driver Ryan Coniam. Coniam's rookie year was highlighted by a A-Main win at Brockville Ontario Speedway and also by finishing a mere three points to last years Canadian Invasion champion Mike Woodring. For his second term on the ESS tour, VSM will provide major backing to Coniam's winged sprint car.

To go along with the an overall point fund of over $25,000 as well as nearly $5,000 in associate cash awards and the addition of VSM's involvement, the race teams will be rewarded at seasons end with a record cash payoff. The first green flag drops on Saturday night, April 13 at the Black Rock Speedway, in Dundee, N.Y. with the Canadian Invasion Tour kicking off on May 31 in Brockville. The ultra-quick quarter-miler will be a big test for the top wheelman of ESS.

Seven-time and defending ESS champion Mike Woodring will again be the odds on favorite for 2002. Along with stars of America such as Dan Kaszubinski and Lance Yonge, Canada can boast not only Coniam but Rick Wilson and Quebec's Alain Bergeron which showcases a true international flare with ESS.

It's the very best of "America's ace Cars" visiting our friends to the North. With the help of VSM Abrasives....Oh Canada! It will be excitement guaranteed!!! {TB2} VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion Tour 2002 for the Empire Super Sprints.
