Oswego, NY - Empire Sports Network increases its commitment to short track racing in New York State by announcing that it will air 19 pavement events on a tape delayed basis in 2000. The schedule was unveiled this past week by Empire Sports Network director of operations, Joe DelBalso, and Oswego Speedway Promoter, Romey Caruso.
Billed as the Empire Sports Network NYS Pavement Series, the programs to be televised on 19 consecutive Tuesday nights from May 23rd through September 26th will be one hour in length from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. The series will cover races from Oswego Speedway, Tioga Speedway, Spencer Speedway, Lancaster Raceway and Evans Mills Speedway featuring Oswego supers, ISMA supers, NYS pavement modifieds, MBNA cup lites, ARDC/NEMA midgets and NORA limited supers.
According to Caruso, "about six million homes across the country get Empire Sports Network either through the Time Warner cable systems or through Direct TV and Echostar satellite systems. At the Speedway office, we've received calls, faxes and e-mail correspondence from race fans in North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, California and several other states who saw the Empire Sports supermodified telecasts off their satellite dish. It's tremendous exposure for short track, pavement racing in the Northeast and for the companies that sponsor these competitors."
The show will be hosted by local racing personalities Paul Szmal and Joe Marotta, both of whom bring a wealth of racing knowledge and experience to the program. Mike Gibson of County Video Service in Oswego, NY will head up the talented production team who will provide viewers with six camera angles including a speed shot and in-car camera. Nostalgia pieces, tech segments and driver interviews will also be a part of the one hour weekly show.
Mike Gibson was recently honored by the National Sprint Car Museum in Knoxville, Iowa with the 2000 International Reel Wheel Film Festival's Golden Wheel award for excellence in auto racing film production. Mike and his County Video crew won the "Best Automobile Racing Video - Single Event" award for their production of the 1999 Budweiser ISMA SuperNationals at the museum's annual benefit film festival.
