LANGHORNE, PA November 10, 2000 . . . Champion drivers from speedways and sanctioning organizations throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states are invited to be part of the annual Eastern Motorsport Press Association Convention. The three day convention, featuring press conferences, seminars/workshops, the Winston Hall of Fame dinner and more, will take place at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Trevose, PA. a suburb of Philadelphia on January 5-7, 2001. More than 125 professional media, who cover motorsports on a regular basis, are expected to be part of the convention.

The Eastern Motorsport Press Association, made up of more than 250 members (print, broadcast and photo media ) who regularly cover motorsports events, was founded in 1969.

"Last year we invited the champions to participate and it turned out well. We had several champions with us for the Friday night, January 5, Pocono Raceway sponsored social gathering. It gave our members a chance to get to know these racers. We would like to see more track and organization champions join us this year. It can be good exposure for the racer, the track or organization and the sponsors that are involved," said EMPA president Ernie Saxton.

"The champions and a guest are invited free." During the course of the convention organizations such NASCAR, CART, IRL, and NHRA will participate as will Pocono Raceway, Grandview Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and others.

The highlight of the convention is the annual Winston Hall of Fame dinner at which a number of members will be honored for their media efforts. Bill Wimble, one of the top names in stock car racing for many years, will be inducted into the EMPA Hall of Fame as will several others. Wimble as been selected by the Hall of Fame committee for induction while voting for other inductees is on-going.

Speedways and organizations are invited to participate in the convention by staging a press conference or making printed material (schedules, press kits, and news releases ) available. Information on how champions may participate in this special evening as part of the EMPA convention is also available. Details are available by contacting Ernie or Marilyn Saxton at 215.752.7797 or fax us at 215.752.1518.

"Participation in the convention can gain speedways and organizations a rapport with the media that is covering the sport on a regular basis. In addition there are great exposure opportunities for their sponsors. Look what the media has done for other sports. And certainly there are many short tracks and local sanctioning organizations that can benefit from an improved relationship with the media. We are offering that opportunity," said Saxton.
