DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Nov. 28, 2001) -- Charles O. Holliday, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 44th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 17 and give the command to start engines for the "Great American Race."

DuPont will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2002 and will have a celebratory paint scheme on the No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Chevrolet driven by Jeff Gordon during Speedweeks. Gordon, the 2001 Winston Cup champion and a two-time Daytona 500 champion, will drive the anniversary car in the Budweiser Shootout, the Gatorade 125's and the Daytona 500.

"What better way for DuPont to celebrate its anniversary than by giving the command to start engines in the Daytona 500," said Speedway President John Graham. "DuPont has been a strong supporter in motorsports not only with its sponsorship of the No. 24 Chevrolet of Jeff Gordon, but also as a sponsor of DAYTONA USA."

Holliday, a native of Tennessee and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, joined DuPont in 1970 and was named the company's chief executive in 1998. He has been instrumental in practically every area of DuPont business including manufacturing, marketing, finance and planning.

"I'm honored to serve as Grand Marshal of NASCAR's premier event -- the Daytona 500," said DuPont Chairman and CEO Charles O. Holliday, Jr. "We are especially pleased since 2002 marks our 200th anniversary year as a science company serving human needs. Many of our products and technologies contribute to the science of racing -- safety, performance and appearance. On behalf of the 85,000 employees of DuPont, we look forward to an exciting Daytona 500."

Tickets for Speedweeks 2002 events, including the Daytona 500, are available online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling the Speedway ticket office at (386) 253-7223.
