FORT WORTH-DALLAS (August 29, 2001) - The first drivers to conduct a test session at the newly-repaved Texas Motor Speedway Wednesday gave a unanimous thumbs up on the smooth asphalt surface.

Jack Sprague, Ted Musgrave and Rick Crawford all hailed the new granite-based asphalt during a Goodyear Tire test for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The first race on the repaved 1.5-mile superspeedway will be the Silverado 350 for the Craftsman Truck Series on Saturday afternoon, September 15.

"They did a great job with the asphalt," said Sprague, a two-time series champion and winner of June's O'Reilly 400 at Texas. "The track still has its same characteristics but it is so smooth."

"This is a banked Indianapolis, it is so smooth," said Musgrave, who has four Truck victories this season. "You can't even feel going over the tunnels (under the turns in each end of speedway) now, they did a great job getting that smoothed out. I did a long run and my last lap was the fastest of the entire session. This is going to be fast come race week."

"I never had any problems since the speedway opened in 1997," said Crawford. "I liked it then and it is even better now. The surface has so much grip to it. I can't wait for the race."

The trio predicted near-record speeds on The Dallas Morning News Pole Day Friday, September 14. The Silverado 350 will get the green flag at 3:00 p.m. on September 15.

Silverado 350 tickets are on sale at the speedway ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations.
