Hawk Corporation (NYSE: HWK) announced today the appointment of Dr. Gerd Hinzmann as technical director of the Hawk Powder Metal Group. In this newly established role, Hinzmann will have responsibility for research and development of materials and products as well as manufacturing processes at all of Hawk's powder metal (PM) operations.
As part of the research and development function at the Hawk Powder Metal Group, Dr. Hinzmann will work with material and design specialists at each PM facility to initiate improvements in lab and testing capabilities and develop a corporate wide strategy for product development. In the area of manufacturing systems, Dr. Hinzmann will take responsibility for process improvement initiatives and automation programs at each of the group's operating facilities.
The Hawk Powder Metal Group is comprised of Helsel, Inc., Clearfield Powdered Metals, Inc., Allegheny Powder Metallurgy, Inc., Sinterloy Corporation, and the powder metal operations of Wellman Friction Products.
The group produces a broad range of structural PM components for markets such as lawn and garden, fluid power, appliance, truck and automotive. For the nine-month period ending September 30, 2000 the group had revenues of $61.2 million.
Dr. Hinzmann came to the Hawk Powder Metal Group from Stackpole Limited, a powder metal company located near Toronto, Canada, where he was vice president of manufacturing systems. While at Stackpole, Dr. Hinzmann had extensive experience in advanced powder metal forming processes and automation system implementation. Born in Germany, Dr. Hinzmann received his doctorate from the niversity of Hanover (Germany) in 1985.
