The 2009 North American International Auto Show Provides Forum for EyesOn Design Awards
The annual EyesOn Design Awards will take place on Tuesday, January 13, at the Michigan Hall Stage at Cobo Center; the most innovative designs will be chosen from the NAIAS floor and highlighted at this nationally recognized award program.
Designer Judges will once again present the EyesOn Design Awards for Design Excellence in Production and Concept Design at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).
Detroit's NAIAS is one of the premier auto shows in the world. The 2009 event is expected to be one of the best ever with over 50 new vehicle introductions.
EyesOn Design is pleased to present the 5th annual EyesOn Design Awards at the NAIAS on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:50am on Michigan Hall Stage. This is a unique event within the product development community, and one of the most important for automotive designers. On the heels of new product announcements, experts from transportation design colleges and design executives from leading automotive firms will determine which vehicles debuted at the Detroit show are the most beautiful and functional from a "design" standpoint.
Each year, Tom Gale, the founding chairman of the EyesOn Design Awards and former vice president of Design at Chrysler, selects three Chief Judges. The 2009 Chief Judges are:
Chris Bangle, Design Chief at BMW
Willie G. Davidson, Executive Vice President & Chief Styling Officer at Harley-Davidson
Larry Erickson, Chair of Transportation Design at the College for Creative Studies
Twenty additional designers round out this prestigious group of Judges. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 from 11:50AM-12:15PM on the Michigan Hall Stage at Cobo Hall.
The 2009 Sponsors for the EyesOn Design Awards include Dassault Systemes, SAE 2009 World Congress, KPMG, and the Whirlpool Corporation.
The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) corporation, also manages the EyesOn Design Car Show held annually on Father's Day on the Grounds of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. DIO also holds two semi-annual internally-renowned research congresses, The Eye and The Chip and The Eye and the Auto.
Designers from car companies and colleges across the United States and around the world see the importance of vision in what they do. By supporting the DIO, these designers invest in the hope that more people may one day be able to see their work. All proceeds from the EyesOn Design events benefit the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology whose mission is to assist and educate the visually impaired, help preserve vision by public and professional education, and support research related to the eye.
