John Russell Deane named SCCA Pro Racing Chairman of the Board.
TOPEKA, Kan. (April 2, 2003) - SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. has named John Russell "Russ" Deane Chairman of the SCCA Pro Racing Board of Directors.
Named to the SCCA Pro Racing Board in 2002, Deane was elected Chairman at the February Board meeting. He attended his first event as Chairman at the SCCA Speed World Challenge season-opener at Sebring International Raceway.
Deane will work closely with SCCA Pro Racing President Steve Johnson and Vice President and General Manager Mitch Wright in furthering SCCA Pro Racing's series and exposure.
"[Outgoing Board member and SCCA Inc. Chairman] K.P. Jones and Joanne [Jensen] laid a great foundation for Pro Racing," said Deane. "Now we must build upon that foundation and advance our position in exposure and sponsorship."
Deane's motorsports experience includes general counsel positions in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA); Paradama, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Motorcyclists Association (AMA); and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
"Russ brings SCCA Pro Racing the logistical know-how to follow the path of K.P.," said Wright. "His experience in motorsports will help increase Pro Racing's fan base for the Speed World Challenge and the North American Championships."
"[The Board] found Russ over a year ago and set the plan in motion to, first, bring him on the Board and then place him as Chairman. Pro Racing's future is in secure hands with Russ, Steve and Mitch," said Jones.
Deane began working in government before his 1972 graduation from Georgetown University Law Center. In 1975, he became Staff Assistant to the President of the United States. Deane has privately practiced law since that time. Additionally, he serves as President of the Center for International Management Education (CIME) since 1991, providing legal assistance in the development of legal systems and market economies in the former Republic of the Soviet Union.
