De Montmollin Named Speedway's Public Relations Manager

MIAMI (July 2, 2001) -- Curtis Gray, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway, has named Phil de Montmollin as the Speedway's Public Relations Manager. De Montmollin will handle public relations for the NASCAR Winston Cup Pennzoil 400 and the 20th anniversary Grand Prix of Miami, along with Homestead-Miami Speedway's many other events including South Florida appearances of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Grand American Road Racing series. He replaces J.J. O'Malley, who has been named to the new position of Senior Editor for ISC Publications, Inc., a subsidiary of International Speedway Corporation (ISC).

Prior to joining Homestead-Miami Speedway, de Montmollin spent over five years with the University of Miami Athletic Department. De Montmollin served three season (1997, 98, 99) as Sports Information Director for the Miami Hurricanes baseball program, while assisting with the day-to-day SID duties for the UM football program. The Miami baseball team advanced to the College World Series in each of de Montmollin's three years, capped by a national championship in 1999. He later became Sports Information Director for the University of Miami football program, one of the nation's most publicized teams in college athletics.

The lead writer and editor for many of the UM athletic publications, his 1999 University of Miami baseball media guide was named "Best in the Nation" by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A statistician for Miami Heat and University of Miami radio broadcasts, de Montmollin has also assisted the Miami Dolphins, Miami Sol, Florida Bobcats, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, NBC Olympics, ESPN, Sunshine Network, FOX Sports Net FL, Westwood One Radio, and the Royal Caribbean Classic.

Raised in Miami, de Montmollin holds a B.A. in History from the University of Florida and M.S. in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University.
