SONOMA, Calif. (February 27, 2001) - FOX Sports' coverage of the Daytona 500 on February 18 earned an impressive 5.2 rating and a 16 share in the San Francisco market, a 30-percent increase over last year's event. Locally, the Daytona 500 aired on FOX affiliate KTVU in Oakland.

The Daytona 500 earned a 4.2 rating (11 share) in the San Francisco market in 2000.

The San Francisco market also saw a 71-percent rating increase in the Budweiser Shootout, from 1.7 in 2000 to 2.9 in 2001. The Budweiser Shootout was broadcast live on FOX-KTVU on February 11. The increase was the second largest in the country behind Dallas' 144-percent gain.

Nationally, the Daytona 500 earned a 10.0 rating, it's highest rating in more than 20 years. A show's rating indicates the percentage of U.S. homes tuned in to it, and a share represents the percentage of television sets tuned in.
