Some members of Richard Childress Racing went on a field trip this past week to Akron, Ohio for visit to the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's Research and Development Center. The R & D center is a high security facility that rarely permits visitors. Included in the RCR field day were Mike Skinner, Richard Childress, Kevin Hamlin, Larry McReynolds, Bobby Hutchens and other members of the RCR racing team.
"We've used Goodyear tires for over 30 years," stated Richard Childress. "I didn't realize just how extensive the building of a race tire was. Goodyear does tremendous work and research in the engineering of the tires and developing of compounds. I would say we all left Akron with a good education of how a race tire is developed."
