Golden wheel: Prizes for BPA drivers and photographer - 16.02.2008
Drivers and a photographer of the BPA sport marketing succeed in the Golden wheel awards that are based on voting of the Czech motorsport journalists. The galadinner took place in the hotel Hilton in Prague. Tomas Enge got the prize for the first place in circuit drivers category, Jan Charouz got the speed award for the fastest lap in a race, Erik Janis was third in the circuit category and Vaclav Pech, cooperating with BPA, got the same place in the rally category. Martin Straka got the Golden eye for the best motorsport photo.
Tomas Enge got his ninth Golden wheel in one of the main categories and he has got eight Speed awards and one Jiri Sedlar trophy. He is following footsteps of his father Bretislav who got two Golden wheels in the past. Also Jan Charouz follows family tradition, his father Antonin is owner of five Golden wheels.
Twenty years old student got the trophy for the fastest lap in a race. His average speed was 227.368 km/h and was set during the famous Le Mans 24 hours with Lola-Judd of the Skoda Charouz Racing System. He was fourth among the circuit drivers just behind Erik Janis who won kart category in the past and also the Jiri Sedlar trophy.
Roman Kresta was fifth in the rally category, Antonin Charouz was eighth in the circuit. Vaclav Nimc, his team-mate from the AMG M3000 Mercedes team was 13th just behind Jarek Janis and ahead of Adam Lacko.
The Picture of the year trophy got BPA photographer Martin Straka and his photo called "Constellation of small and big racing cars". The photo was taken during the start of the Epilog at Brno. The author followed his second place two years ago and third place from last year. The second spot secured Petr Fryba who has been also cooperating with BPA. The results of this category determined specialized jury that had five members from the Sport Press, which organize the whole awards, and partner of the competition that was Centrum Foto Skoda company.
Tomas Enge: "I am a bit surprised that I have got again the Golden wheel in the circuit category, it is my ninth. I had some good results last year like the win in the ALMS GT2 class at Salt Lake City or the silver position in the Grand-Am final at the same venue but overall it was not very successful year. The injury from St. Pete played its part in it. Anyway, I thank to all who give me votes and I hope that next season will be better and cheerful."
Jan Charouz: "It is my first Golden wheel and I am very happy with it although it is not the main one. I expected a bit this trophy because Tomas Enge did not race in the very quick Indy car series last year and also any other Czech driver did not have such a fast car as was our Lola B07/17 Judd. I am already looking forward to the upcoming races and 24 hours Le mans will be again among them."
