Avon, Ind. (January 28, 2002) - The transition for Championship Off Road Racing heading into the 2002 season continues. In October, Speedvision agreed to be the exclusive network to broadcast CORR for the next three years. The stability of the thriving off road racing series was reinforced when CORR announced that Lucas Oil Products would be the Series Title Sponsor starting this year.
"The position of Series Title Sponsor is much more than just an advertising buy," said Marty Reid, CORR President. "It is a statement to the racers, the fans, and everyone in the motorsports industry that you believe in the goals of the organization. Lucas Oil has taken a leadership role in helping CORR take the sport of off road racing to the next level and all of us at CORR are proud to introduce everyone to the Lucas Oil Pro and Sportsman Series," he said.
Since Lucas Oil was founded in 1989, the company has taken an active role in backing motorsports. Lucas Oil is directly involved through multiple vehicle sponsorships and racing event promotions for 28 major motorsport organizations including NHRA, NASCAR, and USAR.
"We felt it was time to get a bit more involved with off road racing," said Don Corsette, General Manager of Lucas Oil. "It's an exciting event for the fans and for us as well. We're just thrilled that we get to be a part of the CORR family and hope everybody involved, fans and racers alike enjoy their time with the series," he said.
Lucas Oil Products is one of the fastest growing additive lines in the consumer automotive industry. Founded by Forrest and Charlotte Lucas in 1989, the company offers a premium line of oils, greases and problem solving additives, which has helped establish Lucas as a prominent figure in the marketplace.
Seeing a need for better lubricants in the racing industry, Lucas Oil developed a line of high performance engine and gear oils.
"Because we make a product that holds up to the extreme measures that race cars go through, it's important for racers to be able to use products they can rely on," said Corsette. "The racing industry is a great place for Lucas Oil to prove its dependability not just to racers but to the average consumer as well," he said.
Lucas Oil was introduced to Championship Off Road Racing through their support of Pro-2 driver Carl Renezeder. Renezeder, who finished third in the 2001 Pro-2 standings, has three career victories and 36 top-five finishes in 50 starts while competing in his Lucas Oil Chevrolet.
With the support of Lucas Oil Products along with 84 hours of the CORR Lucas Oil Series coverage on Speedvision, CORR continues to prosper as the premiere off road racing series.
"In an economic climate where many organizations are struggling to stay alive, CORR is continuing to grow," said Reid. "Thanks to the people at Lucas Oil and Speedvision, who, like our other sponsors, racers, and fans, share our belief that `CORR is the place to race off road', our organization will not only continue to survive, but thrive through these tough economic times."
The 2002 CORR Lucas Oil Series begins with the Pro Series on May 25-26 in Edmeston, NY at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center.
