ATLANTA (September 26, 2001) - Still feeling the momentum of last Sunday's win at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, Joey Clanton hopes to repeat his victorious performance at another famous Indiana-based track: Indianapolis Raceway Park. This Saturday evening, the American Speed Association (ASA) will close the book on the 2001 season in the tirerack.com 200. Clanton has fond feelings for the .686-mile facility, as it was the track that the Georgia-native gained valuable points that would eventually help him capture the 2000 Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year honors.
Clanton sat on the outside pole for the 2000 event and brought home an eighth place finish after chasing the car's set-up the entire night. Clanton feels confident his team can give him a fast car and quick pit stops, with the remainder of the job up to him. "The No. 83 Zaxby's Real Chicken team has been great this year," stated Clanton. "The pit stops are second to none, and we have the privilege of working with the best equipment and some of the most talented people in racing. I just hope that we can cap off our great season with another victory for Zaxby's Real Chicken and a first ASA win for Delco Remy."
Anderson-Ind. based Delco Remy will join Zaxby's Real Chicken this week in support of the Steve Dale Motorsports No. 83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Delco Remy is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and distribution of electrical, powertrain/drivetrain and related components for automotive and industrial applications. The company has a global presence with markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
Clanton currently sits third in the 2001 Driver Points Standings, with 91 points separating him from Gary St. Amant, the second place position holder. The team has had a great year in only their second full season in the ASA Series. The No. 83 has taken the checkered flag at three races this year including St. Augustine (Fla.) Speedway, South Boston (Va.) Speedway and Winchester (Ind.) Speedway.
ASA officials will wave the green flag for the final time in the 2001 season this Saturday, September 29. The National Network (TNN) will broadcast the race live from Indianapolis Raceway Park at 8:00 p.m. EST.
