Looney Tunes Characters To Team Up With Seven Chevrolet Drivers At Richmond International Raceway
AUGUST 7, 2001 -- The NASCAR Winston Cup race at Richmond International Raceway on September 8 will have a new name- and a new look- as title sponsor Chevrolet has partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Action Performance Companies to present The Chevy Monte Carlo 400 with the Looney Tunes.
The race has a new logo that features some of the most popular and recognizable Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon characters including Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil, Sylvester & Tweety, Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian and K9, and Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner.
A special edition Monte Carlo pace car will feature all the Looney Tunes characters and have "Pure Fire ChromaLusion" paint that will appear to change colors.
Seven Chevrolet Monte Carlo drivers will have a special Looney Tunes paint scheme for their cars just for the race at Richmond International Raceway. The participating drivers are defending champion Jeff Gordon along with Kevin Harvick, Steve Park, Mike Skinner, Jeff Green, Bobby Hamilton and Terry Labonte.
In addition to the Looney Tunes special on-track roles, fans will also have a chance to meet the costume characters on Thursday, September 6 through Saturday September 8 at the FanFest pavilion at Richmond International Raceway. The FanFest will feature fun family activities throughout the weekend including interactive displays, kids' games and live musical entertainment. All fans who have a race ticket for the same day they are entering the FanFest pavilion will be admitted for free.
Adding to the excitement on race day will be a special pre-race live performance by platinum-selling country music veteran Tracy Lawrence, who will also perform the national anthem for the evening's race. Lawrence is set to release his seventh album for Warner Records, LIFE DON'T HAVE TO BE SO HARD.
"We are excited to play an important role in this fun and colorful marketing program that will be fun for fans of all ages," said Doug Fritz, president of Richmond International Raceway. "The Looney Tunes theme will enhance what is already a great family weekend at Richmond International Raceway."
The Chevy Monte Carlo 400 with the Looney Tunes is sold out, but tickets are still available for The Kroger 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Thursday, September 6 and the
Autolite/FRAM 250 NASCAR Busch Series race on Friday, September 7. Friday's action will include Bud Pole qualifying for Saturday's race.
