LMS - Five Earn Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Awards

Writer for The Baltimore Sun and "Totally NASCAR" Producer Among Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Award Winner

CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 28, 2005) - The five journalists honored Wednesday evening during the 20th annual presentation of the Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Awards of Excellence in honor of Russ Catlin included a writer who detailed the Hendrick plane tragedy for The Baltimore Sun and a television producer who told the story of legendary Bowman-Gray Stadium for "Totally NASCAR."

The Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding motorsports coverage in five categories while honoring the memory of Russ Catlin, a motorsports journalism pioneer. A record number of entries were submitted to the Indiana University School of Journalism where faculty members selected the winners.

Each winner received a plaque and a Rolex watch from Miller Lite NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver Rusty Wallace following a dinner at the new Penske Racing South facility in Mooresville, N.C. The event was part of the NASCAR NEXTEL Media Tour's annual visit with Penske Racing South drivers and team officials.

"Media coverage of motorsports has changed considerably since the Miller Lite Motorsports Journalism Awards of Excellence were first presented in 1985 and that change is mirrored in the content and quality of this year's winners," said Scott Bussen, marketing communications manager for Miller Brewing Co. "With millions of new race fans, historical coverage of the sport is increasingly important and it is interesting that two of this year's winners told the stories of race tracks that once played major roles in NASCAR and another compared two second-generation drivers who once ruled open-wheel racing.

"Miller Brewing Co. is proud to continue its support of these awards that not only recognize the achievements of today's journalists, but honor the memory and accomplishments of Russ Catlin."
