INDIANAPOLIS (November 27, 2002) - Three of the stars of the CART FedEx Championship Series are in line for more post-season honors as 2002 multi-race winners Cristiano da Matta, Bruno Junqueira, and Patrick Carpentier have all been tabbed as nominees for the 32nd annual American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association All-American Team.

The AAWRBA team honors two drivers in six separate racing categories for inclusion in a 'first-team' of All-Americans, while a second dozen earn 'second-team' honors. The three CART drivers are included in the open-wheel category after strong seasons that ended in the trio finishing atop the CART standings.

Da Matta won the season championship with seven wins and seven poles and has already earned the prestigious National Driver of the Year award, which was presented to him at last week's 2002 CART Awards Banquet. Junqueira was second in the CART standings after a year that saw him win two races and four poles, as well as the pole for the 86th running of the Indianapolis 500. Carpentier pulled the Buckeye double, winning at Cleveland and Mid-Ohio, and rode a strong late-season run to finish third in the standings.

The award will be given via balloting of the nearly 300 AARWBA members and will be announced in mid-December. In addition to the All-American team award, one driver will be named as the winner of the Jerry Titus Award, which is given to the organization's Driver of the Year. The Titus Award will be announced at the AARWBA banquet, to be held in January.
