NAZARETH, Pa. (June 14, 2000) ---For those of you who need last minute gift ideas for Father's Day, a great new book celebrating special father/child relationships of some of today and yesterday's biggest names has recently been released. A shorter version of this book was earlier published in Reader's Digest. Big Kmart/Texaco/Havoline driver Michael Andretti, the winningest active Championship or Indy car driver is featured with his father, the legendary Mario Andretti, in a section of the new book.
Also included are sections on other stars and their relationships with their fathers such as Kobe Bryant, Yogi Berra, Hank Aaron, George W. Bush, Jay Leno, Sammy Sosa, Jesse Ventura, Al Gore and many more. In total, the book features 100 father/child relationships.
Andretti, who has won more races, led more laps and won more pole positions than any other active Championship or Indy car driver, will be challenging for his 40th overall victory this weekend as a part of three generations of Andretti's this Father's Day weekend. Michael will be racing in the CART FedEx race in Detroit and is currently tied for third in all time victories with Al Unser Sr., and looks to break that tie this weekend and inch closer to his father (52 overall victories-2nd) and A.J. Foyt (67 all time victories-1st).
His father, Mario, will be racing on another continent in the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. A win in the prestigious endurance event would complete his collection of trophies that include hardware from his championships in Formula One and CART as well as wins in the Indy 500 and Daytona 500 events. Marco, the third generation of Andretti drivers, will be competing in the Yamaha Sportster karting series this weekend at Oakland Valley Raceway in Port Jervis, N.Y. Marco hopes to pad his lead in the series point championships.
The book, written by Jonathan P. Decker, is a celebration of fatherhood, and is written from the perspective of the child talking about their father. There are also many family pictures throughout to go along with the heart warming stories. Each story is two pages in length for each celebrity and talks about what they adore and respect most about their fathers, and why they have such a special relationship.
Michael Andretti will be competing in Round 7 of 20 in the CART FedEx Championship Series this weekend when he returns to the streets of Belle Isle for the Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit. The race will be televised on ESPN live at 1 PM ET and will also be broadcast in 195 countries worldwide. The 24 Hours of LeMans will be televised on cable channel SpeedVision.
