DETROIT (March 6, 2000) - A small office fire caused smoke and water damage early Monday morning at Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. headquarters in Troy, Mich.

There were no injuries in the fire, which is believed to have begun sometime around midnight ET Monday, in the area which houses CART's public relations and marketing departments, as well as the offices of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to have been electrical in origin.

"We were fortunate that the building's sprinkler system worked as it should have, and that the Troy Fire Department and building management reacted in such a timely manner to this emergency," said Pat Herbst, CART Director of Human Resources/Office Administration. "We will be inconvenienced for a couple days during the cleanup process, but as usual, the CART staff is pulling together to make things go as smoothly as possible."

The CART offices are expected to remain open throughout the week.
