LAKEWOOD, CO (January 5, 2001) -- CARQUEST Auto Parts is proud to announce it is supporting The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in its goal of furthering the promotion of the professional automotive technician by teaming with the #2 Team ASE NASCAR Craftsman Truck and the Team ASE Motorsports Program for the 2001 racing season.
"CARQUEST is proud to support ASE in carrying their message to professional technicians and car owners," stated Pete Kornafel, CARQUEST President. "CARQUEST supports Team ASE and the ASE certification programs because our organization already partners with the number one group of professionals in the automotive service industry-ASE certified technicians."
ASE was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, independent entity dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive technicians. Today nearly 420,000 automotive service and repair professionals hold current ASE certifications.
The #2 Team ASE / Ultra Motorsports Dodge Craftsman Truck is owned by Marlene and Jim Smith of Ultra Motorsports. Jim Smith is an established off-road champion, who most recently drove to finish first in his division and second overall in the 2000 Baja 2000.
The #2 Team ASE Truck will have a new driver for the 2001 season - Scott Riggs of Durham, NC. This will be Riggs' first full season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Scott has had a successful motorsports career in the Mid-Atlantic Region, then in 1999 moved into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Last season, competing on a limited schedule, he finished with one Top 5, eight Top 10's and seven Top 10 starting positions.
Along with the Team ASE Craftsman Truck support, CARQUEST will also participate with ASE in their other motorsports efforts that include the United States Auto Club (USAC) entries of Lewis Racing and Silver Crown Series with Beast Enterprises, along with ASE's Grassroots Racing program. The ASE Grass Roots Racing Program has grown into a major awareness effort, with teams in all 50 states and Canada displaying Team ASE logos, decals, and caps. Technicians can join the Team ASE Grass Roots racing program by contacting ASE through their web site (www.asecert.org).
